Formulas for Estimating Surface Areas of Ships
1.
Bottom (including boottop area):
Area = (2d + B) ´ Lpp ´ r
d = draught maximum
B = breadth extreme
Lpp = length between perpendiculars
r = 0.90 for big tanks, 0.85 for bulk carriers, 0.70 – 0.75 for dry cargo liners
2.
Boottop:
Area = 2h(Lpp + 0.5B)
h = width of bootop
Lpp = length between perpendiculars
B = breadth extreme
3.
Topside:
Area = 2H(Loa + 0.5B)
H = height of topside (depth – draught)
Loa = length over all
B = breadth extreme
4.
Weather deck (including upper decks on superstructure, foundation, hatches and top of deck houses):
Area = Loa ´ B ´ N
Loa = length overall
B = breadth extreme
N = 0.91 for big tankers and bulk carriers, 0.88 for cargo liners, 0.84 for coasters
5.
Practical Consumption Quantity( PCQ )
A=DFT x Areas ( sq.m)
B=10 x VS% x Factor
PCQ=A/B
