Job Summary
Brief Job Description: The incumbent will be primarily responsible for supporting laboratory work related to solvent based coatings applications. This person will perform formulation work outlined by ADRs / TSRs which includes testing of non Eastman’s raw materials, end-use formulations and competitive benchmarking. He/or She will also be involved in the handling of customer complaints. Documentation of experimental results and day-to-day operations to ensure that laboratory work processes can be carried out smoothly and safely are also required. This will also include: involvement in the maintenance of laboratory equipment, requisition of raw materials and purchasing of lab consumables.

Education
Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry

Personal Qualifications/Requirements
Experience/Job Knowledge/Expertise - The candidate should have a minimum of 2-3 years working experience related to solvent borne based formulation work.
Judgment – Good planning to ensure that materials & equipment are available when required for laboratory testing. Notify peers and supervision when issues related laboratory safety are being observed.
Initiative – Must be self-motivated, looking for ways to improve laboratory work processes, testing accuracy and safety.
Technical Skills - Good knowledge in chemical formulation including handling and blending of chemicals. Must have the ability to perform calculation required for formulation work. A good understanding of solvent borne coatings and coating spray applications would be preferred.

Computer Skills – Able to use Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel

Language Skills – English and Chinese

Communication Skills – Must be able to communicate experimental results clearly to peers & supervision through email, verbal communication and/or concise report. Required to update research notebook clearly and promptly.

Teamwork – Must be able to work with people having different personalities and different job functions.

Specific Job Responsibilities
1. Attending safety meeting/activities, carrying out safety inspections, complying and promoting the Safety Culture
2. Carrying out chemical and physical testing of chemical raw materials and end products
3. Formulating Eastman’s raw materials into coatings applications for testing and spray out
4. Organizing and prioritizing experimental work based on timelines and objectives outlined by supervision
5. Documenting and reporting laboratory work
6. Handling of chemicals (receiving & shipping)
7. Handing the coatings spray-out include handing spray and automatic spray.
8. Preparing and submitting samples for physical and analytical testing
9. Carrying out laboratory equipment operation & maintenance
10. Assisting AD & technical service representatives in providing training and demonstration
11. Working with vendors to ensure that chemicals, equipment and consumables are available for smooth laboratory operations.
12. Maintaining the housekeeping in a customer ready state
