coating和paint的区别是什么？

General speaking, coating=paint, just like 涂料=漆 in Chinese.
but in many cases, we call 'solvent based paint' or 'solvent based coating' PAINT
we call 'water borne coating' COATING
in some other cases, paint can be used as V. (verb) to explain a process of paint application.
Just my personal points.
