Product Materials Engineer - Paint on Parts
Position Duties:
Lead paint on parts & plating (fascia, grille, door handle, mirror, roof rack, rock panel, body side molding, spoiler, scuff plate, wheel, lighting, radio, rear park sensor, switches, airbag cover, steering wheel, door trim grab handle, etc.) materials engineering in support of all Ford Asia Pacific and Africa programs.
Lead and coordinate material expertise to support paint on parts resolution of design, assembly, manufacturing, durability & field issues.
Advise the selection of materials to the Design & Release community.
Specify the significant and critical performance requirements of paint on parts materials for new programs
Initiate alternate materials and process investigation.
Review and signoff on Engineering drawings, Bill of Materials, Design Verification/ Product Validation Plan and Reports per program timing.
Manage material SDS compliance assessment and gateway reporting for GPDS milestones through eFDVS process.
Manage Materials Approvals and Color Durability Approvals
Implement lessons learned from prior investigations into SDS or material performance specifications / strategies.
Represent APA region in global Paint on Parts tech team defining paint approval/part validation process, and develop / update/ support standards (Trustmark, SDS, Material /Performance Specifications, etc.)
Manage laboratory methods for improved prediction of customer usage and field performance.
Support Vehicle Interior Environmental Quality (VIEQ) activity for APA programs from component level.
Deliver materials expertise training to the Design & Release community.
Position Qualifications:
B.S. or M.S. in Polymer Materials Engineering or related engineering fields
Minimum 1 years working experience in automotive paint industry.
Excellent English / Mandarin Chinese communication skills, verbal and written required
In-depth knowledge in painting, printing, coating, and plating processes required
Technical understanding of international material and testing standards (e.g. SAE J400) preferred.
Proven problem solving skills.
Ability to effectively communicate and coordinated with teams from different cultural & educational backgrounds.
Ability to prioritize projects and manage time effectively.
Ability to identify improvement opportunities and lead the implementation of improvements.
